Q: I want to learn more about Freemasonry
A: You can learn more about Freemasonry from the Freemasonry Tasmania website.
Q: Where do you meet?
A: Lodge Phoenix meets at the Brisbane St Lodge Room at 39 Brisbane St Launceston. There is ample parking at the rear after 6:00 pm. The entrance to the lodge is through the rear door to the right of the building.
Q: Who can join?
A: Membership is open to men (the minimum age to apply to become a Freemason is 18 years) of all faiths who are law-abiding, of good character, and who acknowledge a belief in God.
Freemasonry is a multi-racial and multi-cultural organization. The basic qualification for becoming a Freemason is that your decision to join is made without improper inducement by others, nor for personal gain or reasons of idle curiosity.
The essential qualification for admission is that you have a belief in a Supreme Being.
Q: How do I join?
A: Contact one of the offices of the Lodge and express an interest in joining. You will never be asked to join, you must express the desire to join.
If you are contemplating joining our lodge, you may choose to attend one of our dinners, especially our Table Lodge, to meet our members and enjoy our dining experience. Please contact us if you are interested in coming along.
There is also a Masonic open day each year where you can visit our Lodge and ask any questions you have.
Q: When do you meet?
A: We meet on the second Tuesday of every month in February, April, June, August, October, and December each meeting is followed by dinner. The first Saturday in March is our installation, we will try at 15:00.
We have our board meetings in the odd months of January, March, May, July, September, and November. The board meetings are followed by masonic education, which may include rehearsals and lectures. Board meetings are followed by supper.
Q: What do I wear?
A: Unlike other lodges we allow suit and tie as well as black tie because our meetings are earlier in the evening and we recognize you might not have time to change before the meeting.
Q: What if I don’t drink?
A: You will never be pressured to attend dinner or to drink. Non-alcoholic beverages are provided at all functions including dinners and suppers. All members of the Lodge believe in the responsible consumption of alcohol.
Q; Why join Freemasonry?
The journey into Freemasonry is a deeply personal experience, with each member possessing a unique narrative that reflects their own motivations, values, and personal growth. Many Masons often recount the influences—be it family, friends, or personal aspirations—that guided them toward this esteemed fraternity. Their individual stories reveal not only the circumstances that led them to seek membership but also the profound impact Freemasonry has had on their lives, encouraging a commitment to brotherhood, moral development, and community service.Q: What if I don’t drink?
